The Peabody Award Winning
Nursery Tap Hip to Toe DVD/CD Series
The Nursery Tap Hip to Toe children’s DVD/CD series percolated in my head for a couple of years before I had the window of opportunity, time, and location to make them manifest. The idea was to update traditional English and international nursery rhymes and set them to ballet, tap, or jazz in a theatrical way. I thought of it as a sort of layered learning approach; children would be exposed to the musicality of the spoken word through rhythm and rhyme, along with movement all at the same time. The process was a joyful, childlike experience; jumping into the creative sandbox and collaborating with incredibly game and imaginative teens.
There is a total of 60 rhymes in the two volumes of the series.
“A captivating approach to rhythm and rhyme…expressive and witty.”
-Lynn Heffley, L.A. Times
“An exquisitely imagined concept, this production pairs the timeless magic of nursery rhymes with the rich artistry of dance. . . like a night for ballet at the classical theater, an afternoon for painting at a museum, and a morning with a book in an easy chair, this is a DVD from which to learn and treasure.”
